Which is better for developers, Google Maps or Live Search Maps?
I would prefer Google Maps API over Windows Live Map API. Both have similar APIs.
Google Maps - pros: Has lot more features, has a large development community via google groups, easy to get any help, many useful open source libraries are being created (like dragzoom, egeoxml..), supports both georss and kml standards. Has Street view
Windows Live Maps - pros: Does not require any API key to integrate on any website, unlike google and yahoo maps which require you to get API key for every website you put the map on (not a big issue though). Has high quality birds eye view images available.
Reply:Google Maps is faster for users and simple to integrate.
Live Search Maps can be sluggish for some people and may be a bit more difficult to integrate. Both have very user-friendly interfaces, but Live Search Maps offers higher quality satellite images.

Why is Alaska so big in Google Maps?
In part because it IS big, and in part because the maps there, when looking at the world map, appears to be a Mercator-type projection, which makes the areas toward the poles look bigger than they really are.

There's always a problem when you try to map a curved surface onto a flat map, something must be distorted. Google maps may use a traditional Mercator projection which distorts things more the further they are from the equator and so it makes Alaska look the same size as Brazil when, in reality, it is five times smaller.

How does google maps get street views? i mean can a satellite reallly do that?
Street Views are created by third party companies who actually drive down the street with special cameras that are always taking pictures. Thats why if you notice a lot of streets do not have street views yet.

you can go to a website called zillow.com, but they have a lot of older values on it. the best thing to do is ifyou knwo approximately how much your home is currently worth, look up your home first then you can figure out about how off it is. Good luck!

Listing on Google Maps keeps changing initials to lower case
I have listed one of our companies ABC Example Ltd.. onto Google
Maps but for no apparent reason the initials in the listing changes to
'abc' or 'ABc' which looks rather unprofessional. I have access to
edit and update the listing but nothing has been changed and although
i have resubmitted it, the lower case version is still is shown. I have been on the help pages but they do not help. I do
not know how to contact anyone at google to ask them for assistance.
Can someone please help?

Sometimes. The satellite it uses takes many shots around the Earth. I'm sure it will catch your area during winter as well.

these pictures are taken on an ongoing basis. Google has two ways of doing this, they have a Google vehicle that goes around with either a 360 degree digital camera mounted to it taken pictures. They also have street teams and normal people that just go out and take pictures and submit them to google. when google verifies them then they go live.
you can check google specifically and see how you can help because google is always looking for more help with these pics.

The only way I can thing to narrow down say, your own street, is to zoom in and see if you remember what was in front of your house during that period.
I actually did this once for my parents' street It was within 2 weeks at the time, because their neighbor had just moved, and there were different cars in the driveway.

I totally agree with triple ! I have Firefox on a MAC and it runs great. Internet Explorer sucks! My friend had Internet Explorer and his PC was eventually affected by a virus. I'd switch now whenever you can! Best of luck.

I am using it with T-Mobile USA and I am able see the map of Canada so you should be able to see your location but it is not as accurate as it would be with actual GPS receiver because it only picks up the tower signal to locate you and some times it bounces around.

I would say that some of them are up to 5 years old. There was a picture of my house on there before the building work took place and that was 5 yrs ago. Also, the picture of my new house doesn't show the additions we've made to that and we've been there 5 yrs just gone. They are updating all the time though.

Third-party devices aren't compatible (iTrip, headphones, etc.)
Updates will brick phones aka make them unusable unless they're reverted back to factory settings
- Note: A policy is signed by the buyer saying they will not "hack" the phone; however, if the phone is purchased through a third-party for use with a network other than Cingular, the buyer did not agree to the policy. Also worth noting is a law in California that states any international-capable phone MUST have the ability to be unlocked when requested.. be interesting to see what happens with that as Cingular has exclusive rights.

The GPS program for the blackberry curve 8900 is $9.99 a month and it's pretty sweet. On the other hand I noticed that there is an app - Google Maps which is another type of gps system but not as detailed, but yet it is free. Which one should I settle for?

Hi Paul. No, my area of Kent hasn't been put through the Google machine yet. But I've been looking at some of the areas that have, and I think it's great. I was too late for the pulled images, so I missed them. But I spotted a 'headless' man in Regent Street, London. Blurring faces is understandable, but to actually create a headless body is a bit OTT isn't it?!!

I'm sure it's really simple but to be able to see a house and a 360 degree view of the street and even up to the sky is amazing. I'd love to know how they did it and how long it took.

Does anyone know how long it takes for the people who go through cities and countries for Google Maps to put a new town or city onto street view? I ask this cause my old hometown and the town i live in now are not in street view yet. Blue Springs Missouri and Columbia Missouri are not in street view. Does anyone know when or how long it will be before these towns are on street view?

I'd like users to be able to select a location on a map image and then to save that location for other users to view/get directions, etc. Users would not know addresses or gps coordinates, so manually selecting a point on the map and saving that point would be ideal. Is this possible?

At the top right of the map is a

Since you're going to state your material is from a public source; ie Mapquest (google) you're ok.

If it was just some bulbs on a wire close to them, I doubt anyone would be looking. Very strange... my conspiracy theorist mind would have me guess that it's something terrestrial, however. Perhaps some air balloons or some other experiment from someone on the ground.

Put the script you got from that website somewhere where the image you want to break down.
Make sure the python executable is in your path and then call it something like this:
python scriptName.py param1 param2 param3
Then just take these images and put them in a folder that is set to sync with your iPod.

ipodTiles -t nano imageFileName.jpg
It looks like it creates a bunch of imageFileName_1_1.jpg, imageFileName_1_2.jpg, etc.

Nokia n95 GPS work with google maps?
I am thinking about getting a Nokia n95 from ebay. There are several cheaper versions that do not include GPS and wifi for cheaper. If I were to purchase this phone and download Google Maps like I did with my WM6 device would it work? Or do you have to have the gps software on the phone in order for any GPS to work?

I just went to google map search and I think that its kinda shady 2 show peoples houses and cars and stuff..I know it has it's advantages but there are alot of crazy people who probably use this for the wrong reasons. Just wondering what do u guys think?

Does Google Maps have a mileage radius tool besides the line/path tool?
I've defined certain points on a Google Earth map for which I would like to overlay a simple graphic which will indicate the mileage radius (i.e. mileage/distance from a central point).
I'm unable to locate a way to do this using Google's Earth. There is a line/path tool which will give you the mileage between two points but I would like to find a way to do a mileage radius. Does anyone have suggestions or know how to do this?

I'm the kind of person who wants to see traffic, good simple directions, I love aerial images! 3D is awesome too, easy to use, and fast.

8. Search for local things around you, like pizza, dry cleaners, Starbucks, etc.
9. More better printing customization
10. Speedy. Relatively fast in 2D mode. 3D mode can take a while though.
