Why can't you see people on Google maps?

Does anybody know if the software actively deletes images of people from Satellite images on google maps? Apart from the most crowded areas in citys there never seems to be any people anywhere. (Yes I know it's not a live feed before anyone answers) Also, does anyone know when the majority of images were taken. As the one of my house has to be more than 20years old now..

Reply:i dont really know the answer for your question, but i dont think its even really an issue.. is it? i dont want some random person in japan looking at me on google earth. but i dont put it past the goverment. im sure they are more than capable of watching anyone.

Reply:Hi, I have just had a look myself. I zoomed into central London near the Millennium Wheel and I could see people on the grass area near it. You can also see their shadows. I suspect in the instance that you are referring to that they are just too small to be seen.





The photos come from all different times and different sources. The close up photos of major cities were actually taken from aircraft. Others were taken from satellite.


For example in the UK, a company used two light aircraft to survey the whole country over a period of several months.

I do remember there was a pic taken from space of a woman sunbathing topless in her back garden that was on the news a year or so ago. It was found on google earth and seen as an invasion of the womans privacy so I think that is why there are no people. Here is a link to the pic its funny!
